HUD General Overview #
Shown here is an overview of all the possible items displayed on the ShakePrint HUD. In this scenario, the airplane is making a right turn, possibly to intercept a localizer or GPS flight path.
Speed Tape #
All of the parameters listed here are configurable – you can include all or none of them, and you can set them to different values on a per-plane basis using SPAD neXt. You can even change the values mid flight based on airplane states! (e.g. stall speed goes down with flap position).
- Maximum Design Speed Bar(VNE)- Solid top bar indicates the maximum airspeed the airplane is designed to withstand.
- V Letter Speeds – Vx (best angle), Vy (best rate), Vr (rotation), Vg (best glide).
- Selected Autopilot Speed – A flag that shows the AutoThrottle or Flight Level Change speed selected on the autopilot.
- Flap Markers – Shows the maximum speed condition for flap settings 1-4.
- V Number Speeds – Typically used on airliners, V1 (max. speed for first action), V2 (takeoff speed), V3 (flap retraction speed).
- Flap Range Bar – shows the speed range that flaps are able to be used within.
- Minimum Design Speed (VSO) – Solid bar indicates the indicates the maximum airspeed the airplane is designed to fly without stalling
Main Stage #
- Status Bar – Two rows of status slots (6 on top row, 4 on bottom rom) that can be used to display autopilot states (default), or any other data of your choosing.
- Pitch Degrees – shows pitch degrees over / under horizon.
- Horizon Line – with moving compass and heading bug.
- Three Degree Line – Appears automatically when “Approach” is activated, used as guidance for GPS and ILS approaches.
- Radar Altimeter – Appears automatically when “Approach” is activated, shows radar height above the ground.
- Flight Path (Bird) / Flight Director (Ball) – shows the current flight path of the airplane, and whether it is in line with the flight director. To follow the flight director, turn and pitch as necessary to get the ‘Ball’ inside the body of the ‘Bird’.
- Pitch Indicator – Shows the airplanes relative pitch to the horizon
- Compass / CDI (Course Deviation Indicator) – Rotating compass with heading bug on the outside of the ring, with a course needle and CDI indicator on the inside.
Altitude Tape #
- AutoPilot Target Altitude – Selected altitude from Autopilot.
- Altitude Tape.
- Glide Slope Indicator – Used for GPS and ILS vertically guided approaches
- Altitude.
- Kohlsman Barometer Setting.
HUD Data #
- Relative Wind – shows the relative wind to the airplane, and will indicate whether you are flying with a headwind, tailwind, crosswind, etc.
- Ground Speed – GPS ground speed.
- Heading and Course Autopilot Selections.
- Next GPS waypoint and Distance (DME) to that point
- Current NAV source (ILS1 / ILS2 / FMS(GPS))
- Bank Angle Indicator / Turn Coordinator – Each tic is 10 degrees of bank. The bottom of the large triangle will shift to show if the airplane is slipping or skidding.
- Angle of Attack Indicator – AOA relative to the wind.
- Vertical Speed – Current selected vertical speed
- Menu Button – disconnect from SPAD and go back to the main menu.
