Building hardware for the HUD does require a little DIY, but its easy to do and requires very little investment.

The HUD hardware consists of three pieces: The phone mount, the HUD combiner, and the desk/arm mount.

The Phone Mount is a plastic piece that will hold your phone at the correct angle in relation to the HUD Combiner. This mount consists of two features – a screw clamp that allows you to easily secure your phone, and a threaded insert that allows the mount to be connected with the desk/arm.

The combiner is what reflects the image from the screen of the phone to the user’s eyes. It is partially transparent to allow the user to see through it, while presenting a clean, crisp image

The desk/arm mount is what will suspend the HUD combiner assembly and phone above and in front of the computer monitor. The solution to this will look different for every user.

Our solution was to use a Magic Arm – an arm that allows the user to set the exact position, and then turn a single knob to ‘freeze’ it in place. That is mounted to a shelf above the monitor.

Other solutions could be desk mounted, behind the monitor, mounted to the wall, or clamped on top of the monitor if the bezel allows.
